The dosage rate for Scaletec Plus varies by application (initial descaling vs. monthly maintenance) and pool size. The general guidelines for a standard pool are as follows:
Initial Descaling Treatment
- Standard Pool Size (approx. 45,000 liters): Use one full 1.9L bottle of Scaletec Plus. This will descale most pools in 2 to 4 weeks.
- Faster or Summer Descaling: For quicker results or when descaling in warm summer months, it is recommended to double the initial dosage to about 6 fluid ounces per 1,000 gallons of pool water.
- Heavily Scaled Pools: For older, thicker scale, an additional cleanup dosage two weeks after the initial treatment may be necessary, and complete removal may take 3 to 6 months of continued use.
Monthly Maintenance
- For ongoing protection and prevention of new scale buildup, use a small monthly dose of 1 fluid ounce per 1,000 gallons of pool water.
Important Application Notes
- Chlorine Levels: Maintain free chlorine levels at or below 3.0 ppm during the cleanup period. Do not “shock” the pool, as this reduces the product’s effectiveness.
- Water Level: If treating waterline scale, raise and maintain the water level 1 to 2 inches above the scale line so the product can contact the deposits.
- Circulation: Operate the pool pump for at least 8 to 12 hours daily to ensure adequate circulation and distribution of the product.
- Salt Pools: Turn off the salt chlorinator for 1-2 weeks during the initial descaling period.
- Brushing: For harder scale deposits, brush the affected areas weekly to help loosen the scale and improve the product’s penetration.
